Future Institute of Australia case study with client
Summary
Barminco’s Vision is to double the size of their organisation over the next 5 years (from 2018). They recognise that an essential element to the delivery of this vision is excellent leadership. This is why Barminco is investing in its supervisors and managers by working with Future Institute to create a fully customised BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management course.
This course has been designed for over 180 of Barminco supervisors from around Australia. The program is delivered over an 18 month period and includes a combination of eLearning, face-to-face workshops, workplace assessments, webinars and one on one coaching.
We are very proud that Barminco were successful in taking out the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ at the 2019 Western Australia State Training Awards and the National Training Awards.
A big part of these awards relates to the Barminco Leaders Program (BLP) which is aligned to BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
Future Institute worked closely with Barminco to customised the BLP to the Barminco business with 180 leaders enrolled.
This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the hard work that has gone into the development and delivery of this program.
Congratulations to Barminco and a big thank you to our team for all of their dedication and hard work.
Award Winning Program
Barminco the Large Employer of the Year Winner.
Customisation
Future Institute worked closely with Barminco for a period of 12 months to identify the specific training needs at the supervisor level. A range of diagnostic tools and meetings were held to create the fully customised BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. This included working on real projects throughout the training and using workplace scenarios to ensure the new skills, knowledge and capabilities were applicable to the leaders roles in a practical and meaningful manner.
Delivery
The leaders were to complete 12 Units of Competency over an 18 month period.
Before each workshop, the leaders completed eLearning. This enabled them to access the underpinning knowledge prior to attending the workshops.
The face-to-face workshops focused on activity based learning. They are highly interactive and relevant to the challenges the leaders face every day.
About six weeks after the face to face workshop’s there was a live webinar where the participants of the cohort’s able to discuss their application of learning with the trainer. This was an opportunity for the leaders to share their stories of implementing their new skills and knowledge but also revisit concepts to crystallize the learning.
Finally the leaders were required to complete a practical assessment in the workplace on the units that they have undertaken. This means they have to go and do something in the workplace to prove competency. Once again the assessments were about their roles and rely on real projects or scenarios.
Progress
Barminco have enrolled 130 supervisors into this program so far with the first 3 cohorts Graduating in May 2019. Barminco are getting such great results from this program that they have just approved an additional 50 supervisors to commence the training over the next 12 months.
Barminco's Comments
“We went to market to find a suitable training provider that would be prepared to work closely with us, to develop a bespoke leadership program for our 120+ supervisors nationally.
After an initial meeting with Future Institute of Australia I was convinced that they were the right fit for our business, based on their focus to clearly understand our training needs and their experience in the VET sector. We have now been working with Future Institute of Australia for over a year and have developed a customised Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. This is being rolled out across the country and so far the feedback from all involved including the supervisors has been exceptional.
I would strongly recommend Future Institute of Australia for any organisation looking for a training solution for their leaders”.
