Leadership Development Program Press Release
Future Institute of Australia, a Perth-based Registered Training Organisation (RTO) has been awarded by Centamin PLC a A$1 million four-year contract to deliver Nationally Recognised Australian Leadership Training for up to 140 identified leaders at their flagship asset, the Sukari Gold Mine (“Sukari”) in Egypt.
Centamin is an established gold producer with premium listings on both the London and Toronto stock exchange. Sukari is the only modern-mechanised gold mine in Egypt, producing greater than 400,000 ounces per annum.
As of 31 December 2020, greater than 95% of the Sukari workforce are Egyptian and 67% of the leadership positions are held by Egyptians. Centamin is committed to increasing this to 77% in 2022 by empowering their future leaders with the appropriate skills, knowledge, and capability to lead their teams. Centamin has partnered with Future Institute of Australia to deliver on this leadership development initiative.
Centamin went to market to find an experienced, reputable RTO that could deliver proven, quality training internationally to adequately address the needs of these leaders.
Martin Horgan, CEO of Centamin commented: “Developing and creating opportunities for our local workforce has always been central to Centamin’s purpose and providing international structured training and accreditation is an important next step.
Future Institute of Australia’s extensive leadership training experience, combined with their deep understanding of the gold mining industry, made them the preferred partner and we look forward to working with them on this important and exciting initiative.”
Centamin identified current and future leaders at different levels across the Sukari mine including Managers, Superintendents, Leading Hands, and Supervisors. Three programs are currently underway including the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management (for Managers), BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (for Superintendents), and a Non-Accredited Leadership Program (for Leading Hands and Supervisors). All three programs have been heavily customised to Sukari’s Values, Behaviours, Policies, and Procedures.
Each program is being delivered virtually from Australia with highly experienced Australian facilitators. Some of the training material has been translated into Arabic and during each training session there are translators on location to assist the Australian Facilitators to maximise engagement. After each session, each participant also attends a one on one coaching session with the facilitator to reinforce workplace application.
“This is an exciting opportunity and an example of how, even in a pandemic, there are still international opportunities to expand. As a team, we are proud to have our work recognised and that the quality of our programs have enabled us to launch Australian Leadership Standards to the international gold industry”, said Michael McHugh, Managing Director of Future Institute.
